In June 1977, Stereo Review magazine highly lauded a newly-released album by Gary Lawrence and his Sizzling Syncopators (on Blue Goose Records) as a Recording of Special Merit in their "Best of the Month" section.
Critics ranging from Robert Palmer, contributing editor with Downbeat and Rolling Stone to John S. Wilson, jazz writer for The New York Times applauded the band for their stylistic authenticity, superior musicianship and ground-breaking 1920s interpretations of "contemporary" songs.
Using the authentic line-up of three saxophones, two trumpets, trombone, piano, banjo, tuba, and drums, The Sizzling Syncopators featured the vocals of tenor Frank Scafuri, along with the unique arrangements of Gary Lawrence, which brought out a fuller flavor of The Jazz Age than the direct copies of the original recordings!
Now, the original Blue Goose recording is available in its entirety, plus a "bonus" track, not included in the original album, on Vo-Do-De-O-Do #1001.
Since the release of their debut album, The Sizzling Syncopators have continued to tour nationally, thrilling thousands of listeners with their special brand of 1920s jazz and hot dance music. Their finest recordings of their first fifteen years have been released on Vo-Do-De-O-Do #1002.
As with their historic first album, The Syncopators imbue the great music of the Roaring '20s with a fresh, vibrant approach and a light-hearted spirit, as well as a respect for tradition that prompted one critic to call them "The Sincere Syncopators".
Enjoy both of these fine albums on Vo-Do-De-O-Do Records!
